Dust n' Bling: The Story Behind the Brand

Posted by Amy Moss on

I have always been a creative type person. Since I was a little girl, I have always had a passion for drawing, and anything crafty. I have dabbled in many different artistic areas. For quite a while I did airbrushing on metal. I was headed toward automobile airbrushing, specifically, choppers (motorcycles). However, I didn’t end up pursuing that avenue, it just didn’t seem to be the direction I wanted to go.

As I got back in to horses and our daughter got in to Rodeo Royalty, I started playing with making her paracord tack. Then, I started painting designs on hats. One day I was thinking it would be cool to add some leather on one of her tack sets, and stamp in her title, so I grabbed a starter kit and that is when it all began! A couple of the mom’s from the Royalty family really encouraged me to start a business and voila! Dust n’ Bling was born!

While I was coming up with a name for my new business, I was tossing around a few different ideas with my friends. It was between Dirt n’ Bling or Dust n’ Bling. The vote was about half and half but I really preferred the sound of Dust n’ Bling. However, as time has gone by Dust n’ Bling has really developed a meaning for me personally.

I am VERY passionate about good sportsmanship. I grew up a major tomboy. My brother is nine years older than me and I always thought he was the coolest and wanted to be just like him. I was very athletic growing up, I played lots of sports and the one thing that always bothered me, even as a kid, was bad sportsmanship in the players and even more with the parents. My parents were never the kind to stand at the sidelines screaming at their child or belittling them, which I was always thankful for.

As time goes on, I think of the name Dust n’ Bling to somewhat represent that good sportsmanship type atmosphere. Some days you’re left in the dust  while others you may be awarded the bling, but always remember both because it’s what makes us who we are. Always be humble in both situations. That’s what I want people to think of when they hear Dust n’ Bling.

The inspiration for most of the items at Dust n' Bling comes from the client. I generally get the idea of what they would like, and then make it my own. However, I am in the process of making my own designs, and for that, I guess I’d say most times it’s a mood I’m in.

I keep a list of future goals for Dust n' Bling, but one of my immediate goals that I’m working toward, is creating my own line of products. My own designs, in my own style. I want to have a line of tack, and I’ll be streamlining the products I offer. So I’m VERY excited about getting this in place. Since I began, I have been so busy with custom orders that I haven’t really had much time to work at this goal, which is a bummer because it’s the vision I had since I decided to start Dust n’ Bling. So this year, I promised myself I was going to focus on that goal. The bigger goal is the make Dust n’ Bling a well know brand for tack and who knows what else!
